Accreditations

Sanford Orthopedics and Sports Medicine Sioux Falls is located on the same campus as Sanford USD Medical Center, the only Level I Adult and Level II Pediatric Trauma Center in South Dakota.

Sanford Orthopedics and Sports Medicine Sioux Falls is certified by the Joint Commission with special designations for hip and knee replacement, shoulder replacement and hip fractures. Our location has also been designated as a Blue Distinction Center for hip and knee replacement by Wellmark.

In 2020, U.S. News & World Report recognized our program as a high performer for hip and knee replacements. We’ve also been recognized as the highest-scoring orthopedic program in the state.

Caring for athletes

We work with student-athletes from Augustana University, Dakota State University, South Dakota State University and the University of South Dakota to help them prevent and recover from injuries so they can perform their best on the field. Our specialists also support young athletes at community schools through on-site athletic training.

Wide-awake hand surgery

Wide-awake hand surgeries are performed using local anesthesia, meaning the patient doesn’t need to be sedated. Instead, the hand or finger is injected with a numbing agent and the procedure is performed in a clinic.

Local anesthesia comes with many benefits, like giving patients the ability to go home right after their surgery, as well as eliminating the need for them to fast or interrupt their medication regimen.

We’ve performed thousands of hand surgeries using local anesthesia and most patients say the experience is like going to a dentist appointment.

Go home the same day as your procedure

For qualifying patients, discharging from the hospital on the same day of your joint surgery comes with a lot of benefits. These procedures also offer faster recovery times.

Concussion services

We’re proud to have concussion specialists on our team. Concussion specialists offer assessment, management and treatment for concussions. We work with professional, college, high school and youth athletes to prevent and treat concussions.

Our team offers concussion baseline testing, too. Kids who are 10 and older need to be screened every one to two years. Adults just need one baseline test. If the patient later suffers a concussion, we’ll use the baseline test results to get them back to where they were prior to the injury.

Concussion baseline testing takes 30 to 40 minutes and costs $40.
