Routine Children’s Health Services

Well Child Visits

One of the best ways to keep your child healthy is by having regular well child visits. These visits make sure infants, children and teens are getting the care they need to stay healthy.

A wellness visit includes:

  • Comprehensive physical exam
  • Growth and development tracking
  • Discussions on nutrition, physical fitness, sleep, behavior and health concerns
  • Early detection of issues before they become serious
  • Discussions about preventive screenings, health care recommendations and your family’s health
  • Sports and pre-participation physicals for students participating in athletics or physically demanding activities
  • Vaccinations

Infants and young children should have a well child visit at these milestones:

  • 3 to 5 days old
  • 2 to 4 weeks
  • 2 months
  • 4 months
  • 6 months
  • 9 months
  • 12 months (1 year old)
  • 15 months
  • 18 months
  • 24 months (2 years old)
  • 30 months

Children ages 3 years and older should see their provider annually. Learn more about well child visits.

Vaccinations

Stay up to date on your child’s immunizations to protect them from life-threatening illnesses. Vaccinations significantly reduce children’s risk of developing dangerous and preventable diseases. Vaccines are a safe and effective way to keep your child and those around them healthy.

Learn more about childhood immunization.

Vaccines work by building up a body’s natural defense system. Some immunizations contain a dead or weakened form of a virus or bacteria. Others, like the COVID-19 vaccine, deliver instructions on how to create a protein that triggers an immune response. The immune system will then learn how to fight off those infections and can resist infection from those diseases in the future.

Sports Physicals

Sports and pre-participation physicals help parents and students catch health issues before they become problems during play. You’ll meet with an experienced provider for a comprehensive exam that ensures your child is healthy enough to participate in sports. Most schools and sports organizations require players to complete a physical before they’re allowed to participate.

During a sports physical, physicians check:

  • Medical history, including past illnesses, surgeries, injuries and concussions
  • Height and weight
  • Heart and respiratory health

Your child’s regular pediatrician or family medicine doctor can perform a sports physical. Well child checkups also qualify as a physical.
