A Specialist in Palliative Care
Nichole Hassebroek is a certified nurse practitioner specializing in palliative care, oncology and hematology. She helps patients through all stages of illness and provides support for the emotional, spiritual and physical needs of palliative care patients and their families, with the goal of improving quality of life for both the patient and the family.
When someone is diagnosed with a serious illness, oftentimes quality of life is affected. In Palliative Care, Nichole and the team work together with a patient’s other doctors to provide additional care, such as support for:
- Shortness of breath
- Loss of appetite
- Difficulty sleeping
- Other symptoms causing distress
Types of serious illnesses she treats include:
- Congestive heart failure (CHF)
- Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)
- Kidney disease
- Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS)
- Disorders of the blood, bone marrow and lymphatic systems
She also has experience in critical care and trauma nursing and on the Intensive Air Flight Team.
