Dr. Hegge trained with state-of-the-art nuclear magnetic resonance equipment, including isothermal titration calorimetry, fluorescence and phosphorescence equipment, infrared spectroscopy, ultraviolet spectroscopy, high-performance liquid chromatography and gas chromatography.

He gained experience with basic techniques of organic synthesis, including column chromatography, extraction procedures, thin layer chromatography, distillation, reflux procedures and rotary evaporation, along with many other fundamental techniques.
