Caring for Sick Newborns

As a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner, Melanie Noonan works with Neonatologists and other team members taking care of premature and critically ill newborn babies in the NICU.

She cares for infants with a range of conditions including:

  • Prematurity
  • Respiratory failure
  • Congenital anomalies
  • Pulmonary hypertension
  • Hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy
  • Seizures
  • Congenital heart disease
  • Sepsis

She also specializes in resuscitation and stabilization of infants at birth.

Melanie serves a Neonatal Resuscitation Program Instructor and member of the Children’s Palliative Care team.

Idea of Care

I feel that neonatal nurse practitioners help bridge the gap that sometimes exists between nurses and physicians. NNPs provide essential collaborative care. Even at a very young age, I always wanted to help people. My mother was the most influential person as she taught me true compassion.

Personal Interests

Melanie enjoys spending time with family and friends, traveling and cooking. She is married to Dr. Ben Noonan, an orthopedic surgeon, and they have three boys.
