Birthing with Confidence
NOTICE: Sanford Women's is committed to providing a safe environment for you to enjoy our classes. In order to do that, the following measures are being taken:
- Limited class sizes to allow for proper distancing between attendees
- Prescreening questions completed over the phone or MyChart prior to class
- Screening patients again upon entering the classroom
- Providing masks (as needed) to attendees who aren't able to bring their own
- Allowing ample time between classes to properly sanitize the room and equipment
- Continuing to offer online options for patients who are unable or uncomfortable attending an in-person class
Built on the foundation of Lamaze techniques, this class helps you prepare and gain confidence for the birth experience. Topics include positioning and massage techniques, comfort measures, relaxation skills and labor support. Participants will leave this class with skills that they can practice at home up until the big day. They will also have the opportunity to engage in brief discussions on topics including breastfeeding, medical interventions during labor, newborn care and what to be mindful of during postpartum. Classes focus on practice, discussion and giving clients information so they can make informed choices. This thorough class is ideal for first-time parents.
When is the class? Birthing with Confidence is offered two Saturdays (9:30-5:00pm) a month OR as a series that consists of three Wednesday evening sessions (6:30-9:00pm). Participants will receive the same content in each class but will choose between one Saturday class or the three part series.
Who attends? Moms and their support person are all encouraged to attend.
When should moms plan to attend during their pregnancy? Any time after 28 weeks is ideal but attendees can sign up at any stage of pregnancy. This class tends to book up quickly so participants are encouraged to book a spot in advance.
What do I bring? Something to write with and a small snack or beverage, if desired. Saturday classes do not provide lunch but will allow for a 30-60 minute break half way through the class.
