Birth Basics – A Refresher

Birth Basics – A Refresher

NOTICE: Sanford Women's is committed to providing a safe environment for you to enjoy our classes. In order to do that, the following measures are being taken:

  • Providing masks (as needed) to attendees upon request
  • Allowing ample time between classes to properly sanitize the room and equipment
  • Continuing to offer online options for patients who are unable or uncomfortable attending an in-person class

Based on the Injoy Understanding Birth curriculum, this 2.5 hour condensed class reviews what to expect during the birth experience and considerations to be aware of when everything doesn't go as planned so expectant parents can be prepared to make informed decisions and empowered during their birth experience.

Topics include a review of physical changes necessary for birth, reviewing the stages of labor and how to identify when you are in labor, viewing a video of a birth story, reviewing different medical interventions and pain management options, what to expect if a cesarean is needed, and physicals changes to expect the first few hours and days after delivery. This class is offered as an eclass and is ideal for a refresher. (First-time parents are encouraged to register for Birthing with Confidence.)

Class format includes lecture, discussion, and videos.

When is the class? Typically held twice per month, once in-person and once via a live eclass from 6:30 - 9:00 p.m.

Who attends? Moms and their support person are all encouraged to attend.

When should moms plan to attend during their pregnancy? Any time after 28 weeks is ideal but attendees can sign up at any stage of pregnancy. This is a great class to attend alongside additional classes like Breastfeeding Beginnings, Labor Skills, and Caring for your Newborn as these topics are not covered during this course.

What do I bring? Something to write with and a small snack or beverage, if desired.
