New Clinic FAQ

Is Sanford remaining in Rock Rapids?

Sanford Health has invested in the Rock Rapids community for over 20 years. We are proud to continue our support and provide quality health care services to the residents of Rock Rapids and the surrounding communities.

We are constructing a new clinic in Rock Rapids that will allow us to continue to offer our patients health care close to home, with the primary care providers our patients have grown to know and trust. We will also continue to provide a connection to the expansive network of specialty medicine available throughout the entire Sanford Health system.

Will the same services still be available?

Sanford Health is committed to providing expert health care to the residents of Rock Rapids and surrounding communities. In order to continue to provide this care, the new clinic will feature services that benefit the community and current patients. Community members will also have the ability to visit our facility, meeting their health insurance plan requirements, keeping care close to home.

How will patients with the George clinic be taken care of?

Sanford Rock Rapids and Sanford Sheldon are collaborating to ensure that our patients in the George area continue to receive the quality healthcare that they are accustomed to. Patients will continue to have access to their providers in Rock Rapids, Boyden and Sheldon.

Will Sanford providers be able to see me at the hospital?

This will be up to each provider; however, Sanford providers will have the option and ability to see patients at the local hospital.

What if I need an ER, can I still use the local hospital ER if I regularly go to the Sanford clinic?

It is our standard, and we encourage all patients to visit the nearest emergency department for access to urgent care. Many health insurance plans consider emergency services as in-network. Patients will need to review their coverage of emergency services on their health insurance plan.

Where will I be admitted if I need hospital inpatient services? How will this work?

As a patient, you will have a choice of where you prefer inpatient care. Your trusted provider will make a recommendation if specialized, in-patient care is needed and where to go for that care.

Can my medical records be shared between health systems?

This is a common practice we do day-in, day-out. Electronic medical records allow for easy transfer with patient consent on release of information. Patients can request their medical records at any time from their health care institution.

Will the clinic have extended hours?

When determining the hours of operation, we are committed to meeting the needs of the Rock Rapids community. We are anticipating that the clinic will be open 12 hours per day Monday through Friday and four hours on Saturdays. We continuously evaluate our hours of operation to best meet the needs of the communities we serve. The final hours of operation are yet to be finalized and we will share this information when it is available.

Will we still have the specialists come to the clinic?

We are pleased to offer many of the services that we currently offer including primary care, specialty outreach, therapy, diagnostic imaging, pharmacy consults, lab and outpatient nursing services.

How will this affect my health insurance plan?

Patients will need to review their health insurance plan coverage for in-network and out-of-network services.

How will this affect my future health insurance plan options?

Depending on health insurance plans, patients, who are able to select health care providers, will be able to select Sanford Health as their preferred choice health care provider.

What are my pharmacy options for prescription refills?

Patients will need to review their health insurance plan coverage for pharmaceutical needs. Rexall and Lewis Drug, located in Rock Rapids, accepts Sanford Health Plan to cover prescription needs.
