Who Should Consider Breast Cancer Surgery with Jesse Dirksen MD
Jesse Dirksen, MD, a breast health specialist at Sanford Health, talks about who should consider having preventative breast cancer surgery. Women who have been identified as being very high risk for developing breast cancer may consider preventative breast cancer surgery. Most women who do so have a genetic mutation in either the BRCA1 and BRCA2 gene which puts them at a very high risk for developing breast cancer. Preventative breast cancer surgery is removing the breasts before cancer is detected. While it does significantly decrease a woman’s chance of breast cancer, it cannot eliminate all risk.
