Thank You!

Dr. Tom Ortmeier, pathologist at Sanford Health, explains the benefits of having a multidisciplinary breast cancer care team. As a cancer center of excellence (cancer coe), the Edith Sanford Breast Center takes a multidisciplinary approach to optimize breast cancer care. This means we bring together medical professionals from all aspects of care - from the initial phase of the detection of breast cancer all the way through to survivorship. Your breast cancer care team includes experts from primary care, radiology and breast imaging, pathology, surgery, medical oncology, radiation oncology, psychology and social services, nutrition, dietary and other specialists. Your breast cancer care team meets weekly to discuss and develop your individualized treatment plan. Everyone on the team provides input and works together to make sure your care is tailored to your unique health, spirit, social and personal needs. We then present our recommendations to you and discuss the options, risks, and side effects of treatment so that you can make informed decisions during each phase of your breast cancer treatment.
