Statement from Kelby Krabbenhoft, president and CEO, Sanford Health-MeritCare
We are pleased to have someone of Chuck Gulsvig's reputation and high profile in the region join the new Sanford Health & MeritCare team. The new Office of Public Affairs in the Fargo region of our new System will mirror that of the Public Affairs team in the Sioux Falls region, which has been working with the broad region we serve for nearly a decade. Chuck is a great fit, bringing his teaching skills, public speaking, and most important his knowledge of the area. We know that this vital link is key to bringing the complex and fast moving world of Sanford Health & MeritCare to a better understanding of the people in the region.

Our experience is that our Health System changed fundamentally in the eyes of the public and communities, once we established the Office of Public Affairs. In addition to the communication function, this office also manages and distributes our "community dividend" to areas in our communities that 1) Promote Health Care; 2) Promote youth wellness, education, and sports; and 3) Promotes economic development. We see this area as a high profile and obvious way in which Sanford Health-MeritCare can demonstrate our priority of Corporate Citizenship.

In Chuck we find someone who is well known to our leadership, and has a very similar background as the long time Vice President of Public Affairs, Mike Begeman, long-time teacher and basketball coach at Sioux Falls O'Gorman High. Additionally, Chuck is a long time acquaintance of mine. When I need an immediate impact of a high profile position, my experience has served me well to hire people I know and trust will do the job and do it extremely well. Chuck is excited about this new turn in his career and we couldn't find a better representative.

We look forward to hearing what Chuck learns as he engages the region and F-M Community, and we are excited at the chance of having him tell our story to the thousands he will visit within the coming years. Chuck's character, intuition, and sense of humor will serve him and us well. We welcome Chuck and his family to ours at Sanford Health & MeritCare.
