Two day event featured 15 speakers on children's health topics
(Sioux Falls, SD) – Fifteen speakers presented on children’s health topics at the fifth annual Sanford Children’s Health Research Center Scientific Symposium this week. The two-day event concluded Friday at the Sanford Center.
The Sanford Children’s Health Research Center Scientific Symposium features researchers from the Sanford Health Children’s Research Centers, which has locations at Sanford Research in Sioux Falls and the Sanford-Burnham Medical Research Institute (SBMRI) in La Jolla, CA.
Nine researchers from SBMRI and six from Sanford Research presented to colleagues from both sites. For a complete list of presentations, click here.
“An accomplished, diverse group of researchers highlighted this year’s list of presentations,” said David Pearce, PhD, who leads the Sanford Children’s Health Research Center at Sanford Research in Sioux Falls. “It’s invigorating to hear colleagues are working tirelessly to eliminate children’s diseases that are affecting so many.”
In November 2007, Denny Sanford donated $20 million to create the Sanford Children’s Health Research Center. That gift allowed for collaboration between Sanford and California-based Burnham Institute for Medical Research and the commitment to begin children’s research at Sanford in Sioux Falls. Today, Sanford Children’s Health Research Center includes activities in Sioux Falls and La Jolla, CA. The Burnham Institute for Medical Research was renamed the Sanford-Burnham Institute for Medical Research in 2010.
Working as sister sites, the Sanford Children’s Health Research Center locations in Sioux Falls and La Jolla combine expertise in basic science, clinical research, and state-of-the art technology to conquer diseases affecting children. Annually, Sanford Children’s Health Research Center Scientific Symposium brings together researchers from both sites to highlight findings in their field.
