(Fargo, ND) –
Sanford Medical Center Fargo
received The Commission on Cancer of the American College of Surgeons’ Three-Year
Accreditation with Commendation
for its cancer program by demonstrating an excellent level of compliance with one or more standards that represent the full scope of the cancer program.
“This Accreditation is an honor,” says John Leitch MD, Chair of Sanford Medical Center's Cancer Committee and Medical Oncologist at Sanford Health's Roger Maris Cancer Center. “This sends a message to our patients that we are doing everything we can to ensure the community has access to the services required to diagnose, treat and support anyone with a cancer diagnosis.”
"Sanford Health's Roger Maris Cancer Center is committed to delivering the highest quality cancer care possible. On behalf of Sanford Health, congratulations to all involved for the achievement of Accreditation with Commendation," says Dennis Millirons, President of Sanford Medical Center Fargo.
Since its inception in 1922, the Commission’s goal has been to reduce the morbidity and mortality of cancer through education, standard setting and the monitoring of quality care. Beginning in the 1930s, the Commission established standards and a program of review and accreditation for cancer. Sanford Medical Center Fargo has been an approved program since 1940. Only 30 percent of the hospitals in the country are accredited by the Commission of Cancer, of these only 50 percent at the Commendation level.
