Sanford Health Appoints Associate Director for NIAHP

National Institute for Athletic Health & Performance and Center for Youth Sports & Health

(Sioux Falls, SD) –Thayne A. Munce, PhD was recently appointed as Associate Director for Sanford Health's National Institute for Athletic Health & Performance (NIAHP) and Center for Youth Sports & Health.

A graduate of Pennsylvania State University, Dr. Munce completed his post-doctoral fellowship in kinesiology at PSU. Previously, Dr. Munce worked in the University of Illinois at Chicago's Department of Kinesiology & Nutrition. He is also a Member-at-large, Midwest American College of Sports Medicine (ASCM) Board of Directors, and Chair, Midwest ACSM Communications Committee.

"We are very excited to have Dr. Munce join our team," commented Michael F. Bergeron, PhD, Director of the NIAPH. "His professional knowledge, experience and accomplishments will greatly benefit our program and the communities and athletes we serve."

The NIAHP and Center for Youth Sports & Health opened in 2008 to conduct exercise- and sport-related research, provide professional services for athletes and active individuals and participate in advocacy and education on key issues related to youth sports health and safety. Services include detailed physiological evaluations in a controlled environmental chamber, fitness testing, sport nutrition consults and assessments on the athletic field, as well as presentations and seminars for teams and organizations.
