Medical Care in the Dominican Republic

Sanford staff provided medical services to previously screened eye patients.

Mick VandenBosch, MD and Patty Haak, RN with Sanford Clinic Ophthalmology & Optometry recently went on a mission trip to Barahona in the Dominican Republic. During their stay, they provided medical services to previously screened eye patients, including patients with cataracts, scar tissue on the surface of the eye and eye-muscle surgery for kids with crossed eyes.

This was the fourth trip Dr. VandenBosch has made to this area of the world. He said, “Each year, I am amazed at how grateful the patients are, even when they have poor vision the first day after cataract surgery. They thank us profusely and praise God for the care we give them.”
