For more than 30 years, patients have turned to the heart program at Sanford for care. A long-standing history continues to grow with the groundbreaking of the new Sanford Heart Hospital set to open in 2011.
“We have had a tremendous heart program for three decades and this new facility will help us continue to deliver patient care in one convenient location for our patients while keeping our other services right at their fingertips,” said Charles P. O’Brien, MD, President, Sanford USD Medical Center.
Improving Patient Care
Attached directly to Sanford USD Medical Center, the new Sanford Heart Hospital means even more convenience to patients and their families by having physician offices, outpatient testing, surgical services, cath labs and consultation services all in one location. Imagine being greeted by valet parking and centralized registration no matter if visiting for a physician appointment, testing or an inpatient stay.
More than 30 years ago the heart program began at Sanford Health, then Sioux Valley, leading the way in patient care and state-of-the-art technology. Sanford brought to this region such procedures as open-heart surgery, catheterization and mobile cardiovascular services.
What is different?
The new Sanford Heart Hospital is different from other facilities in the region because patients are directly connected to a full-service hospital. Should a patient need another specialty provider for any reason, they are only steps away instead of across town.
Today, the heart program at Sanford leads the way in quality, innovative procedures and care, all centered around the patient and their families. The Sanford heart program consists of highly skilled cardiologists, surgeons and staff who believe patients come first. Comfort and convenience — it’s what families have come to expect from Sanford. It’s what the future holds for people of this region.
