Third Annual Cowboy Up Ride Against Cancer Being Held Tomorrow Aug 18 in McLeod ND

Tomorrow, Saturday, Aug. 18, the streets of McLeod, N.D., will be filled with nearly 400 horseback riders of all ages to raise money to fight cancer. The third annual Cowboy Up ride, benefiting MeritCare Roger Maris Cancer Center, starts at 10 a.m. Last year the event raised over $27,000.

Tomorrow, Saturday, Aug. 18, the streets of McLeod, N.D., will be filled with nearly 400 horseback riders of all ages to raise money to fight cancer. The third annual Cowboy Up ride, benefiting MeritCare Roger Maris Cancer Center, starts at 10 a.m. Last year the event raised over $27,000.

In addition to the ride other activities are taking place as part of the Cowboy Up event; tours of the museum, a horseshoe tournament, food, camping, a silent auction, and a dance. The schedule is:
  • Friday, Aug. 17
    -6-8 p.m. - Registration
  • Saturday, Aug. 18
    -7:30-9 a.m. - Registration
    -10 a.m. - Ride starts
    -4:30-7:30 p.m. - Supper is served
    -8:30 p.m.-12:30 a.m. - Dance with Lone Wolf
  • Sunday, Aug. 19
    -8-11 a.m. - Cowboy breakfast to benefit the McLeod Museum

The Cowboy Up event was started Bruce Van Den Einde of Gardner, N.D. His original idea was to raise money by riding his horse across the state of N.D. His idea changed when he realized other riders shared his passion for fighting cancer, and the Cowboy Up trail ride began.

This year's donations were kicked off with a $5000 donation from Sam's Club.
