Since 2001, Kohl's Department Store has raised money through the Kohl's Cares for Kids (KCK) program to benefit children in our community. Funds are raised through the sale of special items, such as plush animals, books and CDs, four times a year. As a result, this year, Kohl's presented Sanford Children's Hospital with more than $32,000 today, bringing their total giving to Sioux Valley'
s pediatric healthcare programming to more than $150,000.
This year's KCK donation will support the newly implemented Healthy Kids Child Care Curriculum and Healthy Kids Parent Curriculum. This curriculum is part of the Growing Healthy Initiative,
a city-wide program in Sioux Falls
area.The Growing Healthy Initiative
The mission of this initiative is to mobilize the community to assure the health and wellness of the children of the Sioux Falls Area. This is being accomplished, in part, through curriculum developed by Sanford Children's CHILD Services and taught to child care providers and parents. Sioux Valley Child Care Center
staff is currently in the process of completing this curriculum.
The donation was announced September 28, 2006
during a recognition luncheon at Sioux Valley Hospital
to thank Kohls for their continuous support of childrens healthcare. This luncheon followed a visit to the Sioux Valley Child Care Center
to watch the curriculum in action."Kohl's introduced the 'Kohl's Cares for Kids' program to promote children's health and educational opportunities, and is committed to playing an active role in the communities we serve,"
said Julie Gardner, senior vice president of marketing for Kohls Department Stores. "We're proud of the partnerships weve created with children's hospitals across the country, and are excited to join Sanford Children's Hospital in this endeavor."
Kohl's commitment to Sanford Childrens Hospital is made possible through the Kohls Cares for Kids program, which raises funds for children's health and educational opportunities through the sale of special gift items. Net profits from the sales go to support childrens health and educational opportunities in the market areas served by Kohl's. Kohl's community outreach also includes Kohl's Kids Who Care, an annual youth volunteer recognition program, fundraising gift cards for local schools and non-profit youth groups, as well as an associate program to encourage volunteerism.
