Children's Miracle Network, the alliance of premier hospitals for children, is a non-profit organization dedicated to helping kids by raising funds for 180 children's hospitals across North America. MeritCare has the only children's hospital in North Dakota. Each year, one champion is chosen from each state by the children's hospitals to act as ambassadors to the media and the public by representing the 14 million kids treated each year at children's hospitals.

On Jan. 2, 2005, when she was six years old, Holbrook was brought to MeritCare's emergency center because she was suffering from loss of consciousness associated with a severe headache. Doctors found that she had bleeding in the brain from a burst blood vessel. Holbrook had numerous neurosurgical procedures and spent nearly three and a half months at MeritCare Children's Hospital. She continues to undergo speech, occupational and physical therapy. Today, Holbrook is a second grader at Eastwood Elementary in West Fargo. She loves to run and play, make people smile and laugh, and make creations out of Playdough. Her mother, Vicki Jahner, says "Tanya's happiness is such an inspiration."
