As a rheumatologist, Dr. Overiene is looking for a long lasting relationship with her patients, providing them continuity of care. She believes that it is very important to educate her patients and their families about their condition, and to provide them the most up-to-date information available. Her goals for patient care and therapy are to improve their quality of life and despite the chronic nature of their condition, to enable them to feel well on an everyday basis.
While in a clinical rheumatology fellowship, Dr. Overiene developed a special interest in gout and intra articular aspirations and injections, which is one of the most efficient ways of diagnosing the disease and alleviating symptoms. She also became skilled in soft tissue injections, including occipital nerve and carpal tunnel injections. Glucocorticoid induced osteoporosis has always been one of her interests, as well as rheumatoid arthritis and spondyloarthropathies, and she has always been fascinated by lupus, vasculitis and inflammatory myopathies.
Dr. Overiene has always enjoyed taking care of people. Physiology of the human body has always fascinated her with its complexity. Science and technology have made therapies available for many conditions. Though medicine is complex, it is always rewarding to be able to make a difference in her patients' lives.
Dr. Overiene is married and has two boys. Justin wants to be a dinosaur explorer and a rheumatologist. Nikolas is following his brother’s example. Dr. Overiene loves traveling and learning about new places. She also loves to exercise which helps her to stay healthy. She believes that if your physician can be a good role model, patients will be more willing to follow their advice.
