Dr. Powell's philosophy of care is based on translating research into clinical practice with the goal of improving treatment options for patients.
Dr. Powell in an active investigator on numerous clinical trials investigating novel anticancer therapies, including immunotherapy and precision oncology treatments. He also runs a translational research lab that explores novel immunotherapy treatments and targets in head and neck cancer. Dr. Powell was born and raised in Vermillion, SD. After receiving an undergraduate degree in biomedical engineering at Arizona State University, he returned to the University of South Dakota for his medical training. Following this, he went to the University of Minnesota to complete his Internal Medicine residency and spent an additional year as a Chief Resident, focusing on medical education. Dr. Powell then pursued fellowship training in Hematology and Oncology at the University of Minnesota. Since his undergraduate training, he has devoted much of his time to cancer research aimed at developing novel therapies and biomarkers to improve cancer treatment.
Dr. Powell is married and has three children. In his spare time, he enjoys cooking, spending time outdoors, and zymology.
