Patients at the Sanford Surgical Tower will immediately notice more privacy, comfort and one-on-one attention. Families will also be able to spend more time with their loved ones before and after the procedure than traditional surgical settings have allowed.

Upon arrival...
Patients and families will be offered courtesy valet service and a greeter will direct them to their pre-operative room. Once registration is complete in the privacy of their own room, patients and families are introduced to the care team which includes a nurse and a Patient Family Advocate (PFA). The care team will prepare patients for surgery and the PFA will support friends and family through the duration of the visit.

During the procedure...
Loved ones can relax in a comfortable lounge area where they can enjoy a calming fireplace, grab a bite to eat at the Dakota Food Court, or use one of the computer kiosks. Families will know how to contact their PFA to answer any questions. Families will also be updated on progress frequently throughout the procedure. Once the procedure is finished, the surgeon will meet with family in a private consultation room.

Into recovery...
When the surgical procedure is complete, the patient will be moved to the post anesthesia area. The recovery area features private space for families of small children or special needs patients.

Families of the patients will be able to rest comfortably knowing their loved one is receiving the best care possible.

The days of a typical surgical waiting room are gone. Families and friends are invited to spend time in the Leora Magestad Allen Family & Guest Center. This quiet area is complete with private seating, a fireplace and refreshments. There is also an onsite food court for you so there is no need to leave the area during the surgery.

Other amenities offered include:

  • Updates on progress throughout the procedure

  • Full service courtesy valet at the main entrance

  • Welcome Center with easy access to staff members to guide you

  • Private rooms where patients are registered and prepared for surgery with space for immediate family

  • Private consultation rooms for families to talk with the care team, including the surgeon
