Surgeons at the Sanford Robotic Surgery Center offer their patients better surgical outcomes and a faster recovery thanks to state-of-the-art technology known as robotic assisted surgery.
During robotic assisted surgery, using the daVinci Surgical System, procedures are performed through incisions no wider than a fingertip. A pencil-size video camera provides magnified, 3-dimensional images of the surgical site. The surgeon uses hand controls to guide the systems arms equipped with surgical instruments.
Sanfords surgical team has performed nearly 1000 procedures since 2004. They have also shared their expertise by training other surgeons across the country. The Sanford Robotic Surgery Center is the only center in the region equipped with two robotic systems to ensure patients timely attention to their surgical needs.
Robotic assisted surgery offers numerous potential benefits over open surgery:
- Reduced pain and trauma to the body
- Less blood loss and need for transfusions
- Less risk of infection
- Shorter hospital stay
- Faster recovery and return to normal activities
- Less scarring
Sanfords robotic team has received national recognition for their accomplishments in robotic surgery.
The Sanford Robotic Surgery Center is located within the Sanford Surgical Tower.
