Athletic Heart Screen

Athletic Heart Screen (appointment necessary)
The Athletic Heart Screen is designed to access the heart health of athletes. The screen is open to middle school, high school and college students age 12-24. The Athletic Heart Screen is not designed for those that are experiencing symptoms, have a known or suspected heart problem or have attended an Athletic Heart Screen in the past. The Athletic Heart Screen is not a substitute for a regular and thorough physical performed on an athlete by their personal physician and/or the team’s medical staff.

Athletic Heart Screen Includes
  • EKG – Checks the heart’s electrical activity that produces the heartbeat and pulse. The EKG makes sure heart rhythm and electrical activity are normal.

  • Limited Echocardiogram – Uses ultrasound to visualize the internal structures of the heart and movement of its valves and walls.

  • Fasting Lipid Panel – Screens for lipid disorders which frequently occur in today’s youth due to poor eating habits, insufficient exercise and higher stress levels.

  • Blood Pressure – Measures the force blood puts on blood vessel walls as it travels through the body. Chronically elevated blood pressure can lead to heart attack, stroke and other forms of heart disease.

  • Body Mass Index – Assesses the relationship of weight to height. Excess weight can contribute to heart disease, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, stroke, diabetes and arthritis.

  • Interpretation by a Pediatric Cardiologist. Results will be sent to home.
