Pediatrics - Critical Care

Sanford Pediatric Critical Care centers are designed and equipped with the latest in technology to support the critical care needs of children with life-threatening illnesses and injuries or those in need of close monitoring. Led by pediatric intensive care physicians known as ‘intensivists,’ and pediatric intensive care nurses, we work with primary care providers and other specialists to support, stabilize and provide advanced care for critically ill children. Pediatric intensivists are available 24/7 at Sanford Children’s Hospitals.

When Your Child is in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit

It can be frightening whenever kids are in the hospital — maybe even more so when they're admitted to the pediatric intensive care unit (PICU). But a basic understanding of the people and equipment in the PICU can help you feel less scared and better prepared to help your child recover.
