Former South Dakota Gov. Mike Rounds joins Sanford Health in advisory role

Former SD Governer Mike Rounds(Sioux Falls, SD) – Former South Dakota Gov. Mike Rounds has joined the Sanford Health team in an advisory capacity.

“Governor Rounds’ experience as our state’s chief executive, health insurance expertise and knowledge of the Medicaid program make him an excellent resource for Sanford Health as we continue to provide the best value for patients in the region,” said Sanford Senior Executive Vice President David Link.

In this advisory capacity, Rounds will provide advice on the further development of health insurance programs, assistance in navigating the Medicaid process with an emphasis on health reform and providing strategic direction in Sanford’s research, education and World Clinic business units.

“I’m honored to serve as an adviser to a great South Dakota company like Sanford Health,” said Rounds. “I look forward to helping its management team shape strategies which grow our economy, create more high paying jobs and build a better health care delivery system.”

Rounds will not be compensated for his advisory role. Instead, he and Sanford Health have agreed to support charitable health care projects of mutual interest.

The former governor’s business, Fischer, Rounds and Associates, is an independent insurance and real estate business located in Pierre with offices in Rapid City, Mitchell, Watertown and Sioux Falls. Fischer-Rounds represents many insurance companies, including the Sanford Health Plan.

Since leaving office in 2011, Rounds has been a member of the Bipartisan Policy Council’s (BPC) Governor’s Council. BPC’s Health Project is embarking on a comprehensive review of the challenges confronting states as they deal with delivery, cost and coverage demands.
