(Sioux Falls, SD) — Sanford Health as part of the Sanford/WebMD fit wellness initiative is partnering with parks in South Dakota and across the country to encourage families to get healthy and active. The Sanford/WebMD fit wellness initiative uses the latest scientific and behavioral research to captivate, educate and activate youth to adopt healthy lifestyles at

fit has partnered nationally with America’s State Parks and the Parks by Nature Network in developing the Pocket Ranger mobile program in an effort to reconnect families with all of the benefits and amenities parks have to offer. Available on both the Apple and Android platforms, the features found on Pocket Ranger gives families access to information, activities and schedules of events to help them plan their outdoor excursions. Hiking, biking, fishing, camping, birding, horseshoes, geocaching, rock climbing, archery… whatever the activity or interest, Sanford/Web MD fit aims to connect families to the right park to help them get active.

fit has also partnered with South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks. South Dakota State Parks will distribute park passports featuring fit, at all of its parks this summer.  In the passport, families will see all of the great activities the park has to offer, as well as fun fit tips and useful information about developing a healthy lifestyle for your entire family.

“We are always on the lookout for ways to assist families to not only get outdoors, but to get healthy,” said Lynn Spomer, Visitor Services Coordinator for South Dakota State Parks. “By teaming up with Sanford Health and including fit tips in the passport book, we are encouraging both.”

A kick-off event for the South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks passport program is planned for May 19 at The Outdoor Campus in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, with the Sanford Health/WebMD fit friends on hand to distribute the passport books from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. To get started, anyone can pick up a passport book at any state park or GFP office or email to request a copy.
