Sanford Supplemental Insurance Now Available for Seniors in North Dakota

North Dakota seniors can now choose Sanford Select for their Medicare supplement insurance needs.

(Sioux Falls, SD and Fargo, ND) – North Dakota seniors can now choose Sanford Select for their Medicare supplement insurance needs. The North Dakota Insurance Department has completed its approval process, allowing independent local agents to offer Sanford Health Plan’s Medicare Select supplemental health insurance plan in south east North Dakota and a Standard Medicare supplement product to residents across North Dakota.

“There’s a great deal of interest in Sanford Select because previously North Dakotans didn’t have very many options. Sanford offers something new, trustworthy and flexible. People like having choices,” says Ruth Krystopolski, president of Sanford Health Plan. “Another important consideration is our emphasis on keeping it local. We bring value by working through local insurance agents in North Dakota, which in turn supports local businesses and communities.”

Sanford Select is a standard Medicare supplement plan with a hospital network. Members can go to the clinic, doctor and specialist of their choice, but for non-emergency hospital and surgical care, they use Sanford Health Plan’s Medicare Select network of hospitals and surgical centers throughout ND, SD, MN and IA. In North Dakota, the network includes Sanford Medical Center Fargo, Sanford South University Fargo, Sanford Mayville Medical Center and Midwest Vision Center in Grand Forks.

“Because members use the Sanford network, they enjoy lower premiums. Seniors who travel south for the winter can also take advantage of Sanford’s snowbird policy allowing seniors to transition to Sanford’s traditional Medicare Supplement plan with no network restrictions, allowing them to receive care nationwide. The Sanford Select plan is available to residents in Barnes, Cass, Grand Forks, Griggs, Nelson, Ransom, Richland, Sargent, Steele and Trail counties, while the Standard Medicare Supplement plan is available to residents statewide.

Earlier this year Sanford rolled out its group plan to small and large employer groups. “The response to the group plan was extremely positive, and we expect a similar response to Sanford Select,” says Jason Hubers, executive vice president of sales for Sanford Health Plan. “The sheer volume of calls for more information about our plans in North Dakota is proof that folks were ready for another option. We’re very pleased to be able to be able to offer these products.”

Sanford Select has been offered in South Dakota, Minnesota and Iowa since 2003. A Medicare supplement policy fills the “gaps” in your original Medicare plan coverage.
