(Oakes, ND) – Southeast Medical Center based out of Oakes, ND officially became MeritCare Oakes July 1, making its merger with Sanford Health-MeritCare complete.
Founded by Drs. Rup and Vani Nagala, the organization comprises of clinics in Oakes, Gwinner, Forman, Lidgerwood, Ellendale, LaMoure and Lisbon, ND.

Sanford Health-MeritCare will now employ all 55 employees. There will be no immediate changes in services, as all current medical care will continue. Highly specialized medical services will be brought to area communities and access to the Sanford Health-MeritCare electronic medical record system will enhance continuity of care for patients. Recruitment and retention of doctors and other highly skilled medical staff will be enhanced as a part of a larger system.
A partnership will also allow for a more integrated, collaborative network of providers through stronger relationships between primary care providers and specialists associated with Sanford Health-MeritCare. New opportunities will be available for health care professionals including training and health education, as well as better access to the University of North Dakota School of Medicine and other major research institutions across the nation that bring the latest treatments, medications and research closer to home for people in the service area.
MeritCare Oakes is comprised of four physicians with board certifications in family practice, internal medicine, OB/GYN, geriatrics, sports medicine and phlebology, six certified physician assistants, two certified family nurse practitioners and a physical therapist.
