FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Fargo, ND and Sioux Falls, SD) - Sanford Neurosciences and MeritCare Neuroscience
both recently received national recognition for multiple sclerosis care. The National Multiple Sclerosis Society
designated Sanford Neurosciences and MeritCare Neuroscience as Affiliated Centers for Comprehensive Care
. The affiliation is an innovative quality designation that helps those with multiple sclerosis (MS) find medical facilities with expertise in providing specialized MS care.
Sanford Neurosciences and MeritCare Neuroscience are two of five centers honored with this distinction in the North Central States Chapter, and MeritCare Neuroscience is the first MS center to be affiliated with the National Multiple Sclerosis Society in North Dakota.
To be considered for this recognition, both centers completed a profile with the National Multiple Sclerosis Society that captured information about their models of care and the experiences of patients accessing those services. The National Multiple Sclerosis Society selects MS centers that meet or exceed pre-determined qualifications to become affiliates. Among these qualifications, providing comprehensive, coordinated and individualized MS care is a significant strength assessed by the Society. Programs accepted as affiliates are selected for a three-year period and are subject to re-evaluation before being selected for additional affiliation terms.
"Providing comprehensive and coordinated multiple sclerosis care has always been a major goal of ours," said Peggy Mondry, Multiple Sclerosis Center coordinator, MeritCare Neuroscience. "We have always focused on the individual patient experience and made it a top priority. To be honored with this affiliation reiterates our commitment to provide the best care possible."
"The treatment options for MS continue to expand," stated Jerome Freeman, MD with Sanford Clinic Neurology. "Our MS Center offers established expertise and an effective team approach to MS care."
The selection criteria include:
- Focus on the experience of the patient.
- Provide comprehensive, coordinated and individualized MS care, while allowing flexibility in center operations and staffing models.
- Recognize the benefit for patients to have access to a full array of medical, psycho-social and rehabilitation services to address the varied and often complex issues related to living with MS.
- Continue to educate the team of professionals who take care of MS patients.
- Preserve a strong collaboration with the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
