Sanford Childrens Hospital Program Director Given Childrens Miracle Networks Highest Honor

(Sioux Falls, SD) - The Sanford Children's Hospital is pleased to announce that Amy Sumner, Children's Miracle Network Program Director, has been given the Stephanie Melemis Award, the Children's Miracle Network's highest honor.

The Stephanie Melemis Award recognizes an outstanding Children's Miracle Network program director whose selfless and heartfelt service characterizes the commitment and dedication exemplified by Melemis. It is presented to an individual whose accomplishments, ongoing efforts and overall service reflect a passion that shows kids truly come first.

Sumner has led the Children's Miracle Network program at Sanford Children's Hospital for eight years, growing it at an unbelievable rate. Since she joined the team the funds raised have grown from $475,000 to more than one million dollars annually.

Sumner sees obstacles as challenges and looks for creative ways to overcome them, and creates and maximizes successful partnerships because she fervently believes that the kids deserve her best efforts. She has infused new life and energy into the program, reinvigorated fundraising and created hundreds of relationships with donors, volunteers, medical staff, and Miracle Families, all with the goal of promoting and growing Children's Miracle Network. She has even brought several potential national sponsors to the attention of the CMN National staff to assist other programs across the country in growing their funds as well.

Brian Mortenson, President of Sanford Health Foundation, describes her enthusiasm for life as contagious. "Her focus is always on the needs of sick and injured children as the ultimate and culminating purpose of each activity, event or visit. Her spirit of enthusiasm for the cause and her sincere empathy for suffering children and the plight of their families translate directly into philanthropic giving from the heart, on behalf of many."

Sumner was presented the award at the National Children's Miracle Network Fall Conference held in Salt Lake City, UT.
