NBA Player Mike Miller Announces Shoot for the Cure

Philanthropic Campaign to Help Cure Type 1 Diabetes

(Sioux Falls, SD) –NBA standout and new Minnesota Timberwolves team member Mike Miller announced today a generous philanthropic campaign this season to help cure juvenile diabetes. Miller unveiled the Mike Miller Shoot for the Cure. For every successful three-point field goal scored during home games this regular season, the Mike Miller Foundation will donate $100 to help find a cure for type 1 diabetes, also known as juvenile diabetes. Proceeds will be directed to the Sanford Project.

“Millions of children and adults suffer from type 1 diabetes, and this is an opportunity to make an impact in their lives,” stated Miller. “I’m confident with the focused research of the Sanford Project a cure can be found.”

The concept for the Sanford Project is to focus on a single, pressing healthcare issue and establish a world-class research team to find a cure. Through an extensive selection process, Sanford Health chose to attack type 1 diabetes. Type 1 diabetes currently affects nearly three million people in the United States. It is an autoimmune disease in which the body’s immune system attacks and destroys insulin-producing cells of the pancreas. It often strikes during childhood, makes patients dependent on insulin for life and carries the constant threat of devastating complications.

“Mike is known for his great generosity and teamwork on and off the court, and we are honored Mike will join the Sanford Project team to cure type 1 diabetes,” stated Kelby K. Krabbenhoft, Sanford Health President and CEO. “Mike continues to give back to his community, and the Mike Miller Shoot for the Cure will help bolster research to help millions of people afflicted with type 1.”

To celebrate Miller’s efforts, Sanford Health will sponsor Mike Miller night at Target Center on November 29. The Minnesota Timberwolves will also host a type 1 diabetes night this season. Additionally, the Timberwolves will visit Miller’s home state of South Dakota on February 21 to host a children’s basketball camp and tour the new Sanford Children’s Hospital. The visit will be featured during the Timberwolves February 22 home game against the LA Lakers.

“I’m asking my fans to join me in this worthy cause by joining the Mike Miller Shoot for the Cure Club and pledging money for each three-pointer I make,” added Miller. “Together, we can make an impact and cure type 1 diabetes.”

Donation information can be found at and at a kiosk in the Target center.
