The American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ASGE), a leading gastrointestinal medical society, has recognized the Sanford Center for Digestive Health for quality and safety. The ASGE Endoscopy Unit Recognition Program honors endoscopy units that have demonstrated a commitment to patient safety and quality in endoscopy as evidenced by meeting the program’s rigorous criteria, which includes following the ASGE guidelines on privileging, quality assurance, endoscope reprocessing, CDC infection control guidelines and ensuring endoscopy staff competency.

The Magnet Recognition Program recognizes healthcare organizations around the world that provide nursing excellence. Blue Cross Blue Shield - Blue Distinction® Center

Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Dakota has named Sanford Bismarck a Blue Distinction Center + for Knee and Hip Replacement, and Spine Surgery.

Blue Distinction Centers are part of a national designation program that recognizes facilities that demonstrate expertise in delivering quality specialty care. The designation historically focused solely on quality, but it has recently expanded to include more robust quality measures focused on improved patient health and safety as well as new cost-efficiency measures.

Bronze Award for Transplant Programs

The Department of Health and Human Services awarded Sanford USD Medical Center and Sanford Medical Center Fargo the honor for its kidney transplant work. The award measures quality of care as well as post-transplant survival rates, transplant rates and pre-transplant mortality rates. This award places Sanford in the top 23% of transplant programs in the country and we were the only medical centers in the Dakotas to secure the honor.

The Minnesota Department of Health certifies clinics that have met a set of rigorous standards to provide patient and family-centered care and are working to improve the overall quality and affordability of health care. MDH is nationally recognized for its certification process. Minnesota is one of eight medical home demonstration states in the nation. Minnesota State legislation established the program in 2008. Achievement of certification signifies that the clinic has met standards to the approach of primary care in which primary care providers, families and patients work in partnership to improve health outcomes and quality of life for individuals with chronic or complex health conditions. Clinics include internal medicine, family medicine and children's.

Commission on Accreditation of Medical Transport Systems

The Commission on Accreditation of Medical Transport Systems (CAMTS) is an organization comprised of for-profit and nonprofit organizations that improve the quality and safety of medical transport services. They believe the two highest priorities of an air medical transport services are patient care and safety of the transport environment. Their accreditation standards address issues of patient care, quality, communications, aviation standards, management and safety in fixed and rotary wing services as well as ground inter facility services that provide critical care transports. Each standard is supported by measureable criteria to ensure a program's level of quality.

Diagnostic Imaging Center of Excellence

The American College of Radiology has named Sanford Fargo as a Diagnostic Imaging Center of Excellence (DICOE). The DICOE program recognizes excellence at multiple levels – including the professional staff, the technology and policies and procedures the organizations follow – and superior patient care. The Sanford Fargo medical imaging team is the only one in North Dakota, South Dakota, Montana, Iowa, Nebraska and Minnesota to achieve the ACR Diagnostic Imaging Center of Excellence designation. Gold Standard for EMS

The FM Ambulance team has earned gold recognition for implementing quality improvement measures for the treatment of patients who experience severe heart attacks. Mission: Lifeline® seeks to save lives by closing the gaps that separate STEMI patients from timely access to appropriate treatments. Mission: Lifeline also focuses on improving the system of care for patients.

Emergency Medical System providers are vital to the success of Mission: Lifeline®. FM Ambulance performs 12-lead ECGs which measure the electrical activity of the heart and can help determine if a heart attack has occurred. The American Heart Association recognizes FM Ambulance for attaining 75% or higher performance on each applicable Mission: Lifeline® EMS Achievement Measure for consecutive 24-month interval to improve the quality of care for STEMI patents.

The Joint Commission seeks to continuously improve health care for the public, in collaboration with other stakeholders, by evaluating health care organizations and inspiring them to excel in providing safe and effective care of the highest quality and value. Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls and Sanford Health in Fargo have earned The Joint Commission's Gold Seal of Approval™ for their hip fracture programs as well as their knee replacement, hip replacement, and shoulder replacement programs. Sanford USD Medical Center became the first health care program in the nation to receive all four certifications and did so by demonstrating compliance with The Joint Commission's national standards for health care quality and safety in hospitals.

Level II Trauma Center

At a Level II, emergency room services and surgical services must be available 24/7. A Level II trauma center must also be part of a hospital that provides acute critical care and care throughout the continuum of the patients' illness and injury, as well as an in-house lab. They also need advanced life support immediately available on air transport, 9-1-1 and long-distance transport.

The American Heart Association and American Stroke Association recognizes Sanford Health with Get With The Guidelines (GWTG)-Stroke Gold Plus® Quality Achievement Award with Target: Stroke Honor Roll Elite Plus®

The award recognizes commitment to providing the most appropriate stroke treatment according to nationally recognized, research-based guidelines based on the latest scientific evidence. Hospitals must achieve 85 percent (plus) adherence to all GWTG-Stroke achievement indicators for two or more years and achieve 75 percent (plus) compliance with five of eight GWTG-Stroke Quality measures to receive the Gold Plus Quality Achievement Award.

To qualify for the Target: Stroke Honor Roll Elite Plus, hospitals must meet quality measures developed to reduce the time between the patient’s arrival at the hospital and treatment with the clot-buster tissue plasminogen activator, or tPA, the only drug approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to treat ischemic stroke.

The Platinum Standard in Heart Attack Care

The American College of Cardiology and the American Heart Association commended Sanford for its critical step in saving lives and improving outcomes of heart attack patients with the National Cardiovascular Data Registry Registry–Get With The Guidelines Platinum Performance Achievement Award. To receive the Platinum Award, Sanford consistently followed the treatment guidelines for eight consecutive quarters and met a performance standard of 90 percent. Full participation in the registry engages hospitals in a robust quality improvement process using data to drive improvements in adherence to guideline recommendations and overall quality of care provided to heart attack patients.
