I completed my Doctor of Nursing Practice with a diabetes and disaster management focus, however my passion is holistic care, focusing on the patient as a whole rather than one system or diagnosis.
The role of a nurse practitioner is to create an environment fostering an intrinsic desire to learn, to engage patients in the search for answers, to assist in the construction of a knowledge base relevant to self-discovery, and to direct the patient to their potential for knowledge acquisition, creation and translation. This journey creates positive health change for the patient and challenges the patient to work with healthcare providers to find optimal health and treatment opportunities for chronic and acute health conditions.
As a nurse practitioner a great portion of my responsibility is to engage the patient as a learner and actively collaborate with both the patient and the care team to create a plan of care fostering compliance and self-treatment, empowering the patient to actively participate in healthcare and seek tools to improve health as a way of life.
I recently completed a volunteer experience with Indian Health Services spending time in this vibrant and unique community assisting patients with healthcare needs. I have served for a number of years as a nursing educator in undergraduate BSN, RN-BSN program and graduate MSN and DNP programs fostering learning and growth in the nursing community. I have a passion for education for both the profession and for patients.
My husband and I enjoy many hobbies to include outdoor activities and hobby farming. We love hiking and camping, exploring national parks and our sustainable farm in Tennessee.
