As a board certified physician in internal medicine my primary focus is in the hospital. I am a hospitalist. I enjoy the challenges and rewards of taking care of patients in the hospital setting. I also enjoy teaching students at various levels of training who are entering the medical field on a variety of career paths.
Caring for patients in the hospital and clinic is a privilege and a trust. Through listening, thoughtful discussion, and shared decision making I strive to build strong relationships that promote comfort and healing. In this community we are all a part of one large family, taking turns caring for one another in times of need with items big and small.
During college I spent a summer as a researcher and normal volunteer at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in Bethesda, MD. I worked at the National Heath, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI). After completing internship and residency in internal medicine at the the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN, I completed a fellowship in geriatrics. I was later on staff at Mayo Clinic Rochester as a clinician and instructor of medicine in the department of community internal medicine.
I am happily married with two wonderful children. I grew up in Fargo, ND, and later attended Concordia College in Moorhead, MN. Growing up my family spent summers at a cabin on Lake Miltona. I have many fond memories of these summers past, enjoying the lakes of Alexandria and spending time with family.
I enjoy the outdoors and spending time with family. I enjoy traveling, running, reading, snow skiing, water sports, hunting and fishing. Visiting the North Shore along Lake Superior is a favorite summer trip.
