Title:

A Pragmatic Randomized trial Evaluating Pre-operative Alcohol skin solutions in FRactured Extremities

Description:
PCORI Prep-It PREPARE, Pre-operative Alcohol skin solutions in FRactured Extremities Description: This study seeks to compare two standard of care pre-operative prep solutions used for people who are over 18, have sustained an orthopaedic fracture requiring hardware placement or fixation, and are planning to follow up with their orthopaedic surgeon following surgery. We are trying to determine which pre-operative solution, iodine-povacrylex (duraprep) or chlorhexidine gluconate (chloraprep), is better at lowering the risk of infection and complications requiring additional surgery in patients with fractures. Following your orthopaedic fracture fixations, we would like to be able to check in with you for a year to see how you are doing. We will touch base with you at each of your routinely scheduled clinical follow-up appointments with your surgeon or via phone call and ask basic questions about your health and whether you have developed an infection or not.
