Edith Sanford Breast Center will open in 2017. Sanford Health has started construction on an integrated breast health building at its Sioux Falls campus. The three-story, 48,000 square foot facility will be located on 18th Street and connected to the current Sanford Cancer Center and VanDemark Building.
Because of its location on 18th Street and additional entrances on 17th Street, patients and families will enjoy quick, easy access for visits. In addition to serving the patient, the facility was designed with needed support space for family and caregivers.
Programming within the Edith Sanford Breast Center will include mammography, a breast cancer risk assessment program, a high-risk breast clinic, a breast surgery clinic, genetic counseling, a boutique offering medical and retail support for cancer patients, a multi-disciplinary conference center and clinic and a survivorship clinic.
The Sanford BioBank, which serves as a library for researchers to make discoveries in breast cancer and other diseases, will also be housed in the new building. The BioBank will have space for clinical and laboratory research staff, offering patients a location to enroll and providing support for clinic trials and genomic analysis taking place at Sanford USD Medical Center.
Construction on the Edith Sanford Breast Center began in July 2014.
