Basics for Success

This research-based class provides information on getting started with breastfeeding. Ideal for parents planning to breastfeed or interested to learn more about it. This class will discuss the benefits of breastfeeding and how milk is produced, how to breastfeed, tips for knowing when to feed baby and how to know when baby is getting enough milk, hand expression, breast care and how to get the support needed for success.

When is the class? This class is offered monthly in-person and online.

Who attends? Pregnant persons toward the end of their pregnancy and their support person are all encouraged to attend. The knowledge and support of those around the mother and child significantly impact the success of breastfeeding.

When should moms plan to attend during their pregnancy? If you already had your baby, you are welcome to attend and bring your support person and baby (up until baby starts crawling). You are also encouraged to attend Baby Café for any questions or concerns they may have regarding breastfeeding.

What do I bring? Something to write with and a small snack or beverage, if desired. Participants interested in pumping and breastfeeding after returning to work are encouraged to also register for Breastfeeding Lifestyle: Transitioning Beyond the Basics.
