About the Library
The Sanford Virtual Library serves as an information resource to meet the educational and research-related needs of Sanford Health, North Dakota State University (NDSU) Nursing at Sanford Health, the Southwest Campus of the University of North Dakota (UND) School of Medicine, visitors and members of the general public, and the surrounding communities.

The library's collection includes hundreds of books, bound journal volumes, and audiovisual materials. The library also provides access to thousands of electronic journals, and hundreds of eBooks.
The physical library is located in the lower-level of the NDSU Nursing at Sanford Health building on the main Sanford Health campus in downtown Bismarck. Click here to view the Bismarck Campus Map.
Computers are available in the library for patrons to search the catalog and to access the library's electronic resources. A printer and copier are also available to patrons. Fees will apply to patrons who are not affiliated with Sanford Health.

The online catalog can be used to search the library's print and electronic resources. The catalog can be used to search the library's collection of books, bound journals, audiovisual materials, and eBooks. The eBooks can only be fully accessed in the library, or Sanford Health employees can sign-in remotely to access them.

Patrons can search for items from other Online Dakota Information Network (ODIN) libraries by clicking on the "All ODIN Libraries" tab on the catalog. Only Sanford Health employees can borrow ODIN library items through the Sanford Virtual Library. All other patrons will be referred to another library for interlibrary loan.
Journal Finder is a resource that allows you to search for electronic journals the library has access to. The journal articles themselves can only be fully accessed in the library, or Sanford Health employees can sign-in remotely to access them.

Library materials are available for checkout to individuals affiliated with Sanford Health, North Dakota State University (NDSU) Nursing at Sanford Health, and the Southwest Campus of the University of North Dakota (UND) School of Medicine.
If you are not affiliated with Sanford Health, NDSU, or UND, you can still utilize the library's resources. Members of the general public are welcome to visit the library during regular business hours. Nonaffiliated patrons cannot check materials out, but materials can still be accessed within the library.
Nonaffiliated patrons can, however, request and borrow eligible items from the Sanford Virtual Library through interlibrary loan at their local library.
Items in the Main and Audiovisual Collections do circulate to eligible patrons.
Items in the Reference, Reserve, and Historical Collections do not circulate. They are for in-library use only. The Bound Journals Collection is also in-library use only.
Articles and books not available as part of the library collection can be requested through Interlibrary Loan (ILL). ILL requests are made through DOCLINE, Online Dakota Information Network (ODIN) libraries, or the North Dakota State Library.
ILL is available to Sanford Health employees. All other patrons will be referred to another library for ILL.
Interlibrary Loan Criteria
The library does loan books in the Main Collection, copies of journal articles (print or electronic), and pages from books.
The library does not loan bound journals, audiovisual materials, or items in the Historical, Reserve, and Reference Collections.
