Sanford Children’s Hospital School Program
Sanford Children’s Hospital School Program in Sioux Falls offers educational services to all school-age children, grades K-12 who are hospitalized for lengthy or repeat periods.
School services are offered by a certified teacher in small groups or on an individual basis Monday through Friday during the school year at no cost to patients or their families. Educational continuity is an important part of the recovery plan for every school-aged child hospitalized at Sanford Children’s. The Hospital School Program bridges the gap between home and hospital. Our staff emphasizes the familiar in an unfamiliar environment and work closely with patients’ school personnel and medical team.
School helps provide a sense of normalcy for a child who has been thrust into the hospital environment. When the normal pattern of schooling is interrupted due to hospitalization, it is important for patients to feel that they can continue to be involved with school activities.
