Meet Our Team

The Bismarck Cancer Center provides radiation oncology and medical oncology services as well as three general Ear, Nose and Throat providers.

Thandiwe Gray, MD

Thandiwe Gray, MD

Medical Oncology

Dr. Gray graduated from medical school at Saba University in Netherlands Antilles and completed a residency in Internal Medicine at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine in Springfield, IL.  She completed a fellowship in Hematology and Oncology at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in Little Rock, AR.  She is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine: Oncology.

Dr. Gray believes in providing a comfortable clinic environment where patients can feel well taken care of and giving the best care available in terms of treatment, clinical trials and emotional support.

Dr. Gray is married with four children. Two of them are adopted from Haiti and Ethiopia. Her husband is a computer scientist who works for the state of North Dakota. They keep busy with entertaining their kids and taking them from one activity to another. Their family also likes to travel to other countries and learning about different cultures.


John Reynolds, MD

Radiation Oncology

Dr. Reynolds received his PhD in microbiology from the University of Chicago and then graduated from Rush Medical College with his medical degree.  He completed his internship in general surgery at the University of Illinois Hospital and his residency in Internal Medicine at St. Joseph Hospital and Medical Center in Chicago, Illinois.   He also completed a fellowship in Hematology/Oncology at the University of California, Irvine in Orange, California and a fellowship in bone marrow transplantation at Rush Medical College in Chicago, Illinois.

Dr. Reynolds is currently a board-certified medical oncologist at Sanford Cancer in Bismarck, North Dakota.      


Kyle Russo, MD

Radiation Oncology

Dr. Russo joined the Bismarck Cancer Center in June of 2014. He is Board Certified in Radiation Oncology. As a Radiation Oncologist, Dr. Russo specializes in the treatment of patients with cancer. 

Dr. Russo earned his medical degree at Louisiana State University School of Medicine in Shreveport and completed his radiation oncology residency at Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston where he served as Chief Resident. Dr. Russo previously practiced at E+OncoLogics in Lafayette, Louisiana. 

Dr. Russo is an active member of the American Society for Therapeutic Radiation Oncology. He has a faculty appointment as a Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of North Dakota.

Dr. Russo accepts all cases including breast, prostate, lung, gynecologic (female cancers), lung, head/neck (mouth, tongue, throat, voice box), stomach, colorectal, pancreatic, esophageal, brain, spinal cord, bladder, bone, sarcoma, lymphoma and metastatic disease. Dr. Russo has published and presented independent research in several areas including; breast, prostate, gynecologic, lung, esophageal, brain and head/neck cancers and is the Director of Clinical Research at the Bismarck Cancer Center. 

Dr. Russo was inspired to pursue a career in radiation oncology after seeing the profound and long-standing relationships that form between the patient and their care team. The typical several week course of therapy and life-time follow up of cancer patients puts this relationship at the core of an effective and meaningful care plan.


Jeffrey Nelson, MD

Ear, Nose and Throat

Dr. Nelson graduated from the Medical College of Ohio in Toledo, OH, and completed his residency in Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery at the State University of New York Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, NY.  He also completed an internship in General Surgery at Indiana University-Purdue University in Indianapolis, IN.  Dr. Nelson is board certified with the American Board of Otolaryngology.

His philosophy of care is to offer a friendly, efficient environment for adults and kids to receive excellent medical/surgical care and education about ear, nose and throat issues. 

Dr. Nelson is married with seven children. He enjoys family activities and vacations. He loves music (voice and piano) and all sports.
