Sanford Bemidji Dermatology has a team of specialists dedicated to improving or maintaining the health of your skin. Our experts are skilled in the latest technologies in skin cancer treatments, including Dr. Angela Aakhus a fellowship-trained Mohs surgeon.
Mohs micrographic surgery is highly specialized and offers the precise removal of skin cancer while preserving the surrounding healthy skin. This safer, more effective approach is the standard of care in treating a majority of nonmelanoma skin cancers of the head and neck, including the two most common types of skin cancer: basal cell carcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma.
This procedure is performed in the clinic, using only local anesthesia. After ensuring complete removal, the area affected is reconstructed. Both procedures are typically performed on the same day.
Nonmelanoma skin cancer: FAQs
We also are skilled in removing melanoma, the less common yet most serious type of skin cancer. Through surgical excision, our dermatologic surgeon can remove the affected skin.
