(Thief River Falls, MN) The structural steel and pre-cast walls are now going up on the new Sanford Thief River Falls Medical Center. The new hospital and clinic is being built in phases with five sections. The structural steel and walls are the first major visual step to the formation of the building above ground.
“The walls will develop quickly,” says Rob Lovejoy, Chief Operating Officer of Sanford Thief River Falls Medical Center. When the walls and roof are completed, construction will begin on the building’s interior and continue throughout the winter.
Since May, construction crews have completed the concrete footings and foundation work. The foundation walls are 15 feet below ground and are now covered by piles of dirt. The sewer and underground water system were also completed as early components of this construction project.
“Due to the warm and dry weather the past few months, we have been able to complete all the construction milestones on time,” says Lovejoy. “The construction of the walls will be a great visual reminder for the public that we are making significant progress since the project started in June.”
The new Sanford Thief River Falls Medical Center is expected to be completed in the fall of 2014. The 137,000 square foot building will centralize care for patients, with clinic and hospital services conveniently located on one medical campus. Nor-Son, Inc. has been named the general contractor for the $60 million construction project.
