(Hillsboro, ND) – Hillsboro Medical Center (HMC) in Hillsboro, ND and Sanford Health, based in Fargo ND and Sioux Falls, SD, announced they have agreed to a letter of intent (LOI). This is a non-binding first step in a potential affiliation. It allows for due diligence, including financial, legal and business information that will help validate that joining together is a good decision for both organizations. A timeline of December 31, 2012 has been set for a potential definitive agreement.
HMC has 148 employees. It is a 16-bed, non-profit critical access hospital with attached 36-bed long term care and 16-unit assisted living facilities. Hillsboro is located 40 miles north of Fargo and has a population of 2,252, and 13,244 in a 25 mile radius. HMC has been managed by Sanford (previously MeritCare) since October 2000. Sanford’s clinic is located within the HMC facility.

HMC services include: general acute care, emergency care, ambulance, laboratory, physical therapy, occupational therapy, radiology, hospice, psychiatric consult, IV therapy, lymphedema management, nutrition consult, respite care, restorative nursing, pharmacy consult, tracheotomies and speech therapy, long term care and assisted living.
