(Sioux Falls, SD) -- Sanford Breast Health Institute has been granted a three-year/full accreditation designation by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC), a program administered by the American College of Surgeons. Sanford Breast Health Institute met 27 of 27 standards to receive NAPBC accreditation in February.
The NAPBC is a consortium of professional organizations dedicated to the improvement of the quality of care and monitoring of outcomes of patients with diseases of the breast. This mission is pursued through standard-setting, scientific validation, and patient and professional education.
Accreditation by the NAPBC is only given to those centers that have voluntarily committed to provide the highest level of quality breast care and that undergo a rigorous evaluation process and review of their performance. The standards include proficiency in the areas of: center leadership, clinical management, research, community outreach, professional education and quality improvement. A breast center that achieves NAPBC accreditation has demonstrated a firm commitment to offer its patients every significant advantage in their battle against breast disease.
This latest designation signifies Sanford’s excellence in meeting rigourous standards combined with our commitment to deliver high quality and compassionate breast health care,” said Thomas Cink, MD, fellowship trained board certified breast radiologist with Sanford. “We continue to challenge ourselves because of our unwavering dedication to improving breast care. Each cancer is unique, so each treatment needs to be unique.
The NAPBC is the third nationally recognized designation awarded to Sanford Breast Health Institute. Sanford has previously attained a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence designation from the American College of Radiology and is a Certified Quality Breast Center in the National Quality Measures for Breast Centers Program, a quality initiative of the National Consortium of Breast Centers. Each of the designations focuses on a unique portion of breast care. The attainment of all three designations illustrates Sanford’s ability to embrace the entire spectrum of breast cancer care, providing patients access to board-certified specialists, as well as breast nurse navigators, patient education and support, palliative care programs, survivorship programs and high risk clinics.
