(Sioux Fall, SD) – Craig Lambrecht, MD, president and CEO, Medcenter One based in Bismarck, ND, and Dwight W. Thompson, Chief Financial Officer/Treasurer, Altru Health System based in Grand Forks, ND, have been named to the Sanford Health Plan board of directors.
The role of the Health Plan board of directors is to govern the non-profit organization by representing members’ interest by assuring efficient operations and attaining growth objectives. The Board oversees the Health Plan’s operational activities; approves strategic plans and financial statements; and monitors financial stability, quality programs and regulatory compliance.
Dr. Lambrecht has been with Medcenter One since 1991. He started as a physician in the emergency and trauma center and has had previous roles at Medcenter One as the COO and corporate medical director. In addition to being CEO, he continues as a member of the emergency and trauma center physician team. He is originally from Wishek, ND. He received his medical degree from the University of North Dakota and has earned multiple master’s degrees in health services administration, public health and business administration.
Thompson has been with Altru since 1982 serving in several financial positions. He is a past member of the national board of directors of the Healthcare Financial Management Association, and is a member of the North Dakota and American Institutes of Certified Public Accountants. He is originally from Velva, ND. He received his bachelor of science degree in business administration with a major in Accounting from the University of North Dakota. He has a master's degree in health care administration from the University of Minnesota. Thompson is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and a Fellow in the Health Care Financial Management Association (FHFMA).
Sanford Health Plan was approved to sell health insurance in North Dakota earlier in 2010. Sanford works with local insurance agents to offer Health Plans to small and large employer groups, a Medicare product (Select), and later this year, its individual product (elite1), individual insurance for self-employed individuals, college students, farmers and small business owners.
Sanford Health Plan was established in 1998 as a wholly-owned subsidiary of Sanford Health. The non-profit entity currently covers more than 67,000 lives serving South Dakota, northwest Iowa, southwest Minnesota and North Dakota. The Health Plan is also working on licensing in northwestern Minnesota.
