Gubernatorial Candidates Focus on Children

Sanford Teams up with Local Children's Groups to Host Gubernatorial Candidates

(Sioux Falls, SD) Children’s health and safety were the central focus of the South Dakota Gubernatorial candidates on Wednesday evening. Sanford Children’s teamed up with local children’s groups for an informative and productive discussion about the issues facing children of South Dakota.

Just five days before the Republican primary for governor, four of the six candidates for governor joined together at Sanford USD Medical Center in the Schroeder Auditorium.

Sanford Children’s co-sponsored the event along with the South Dakota Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics, The League of Women Voters of South Dakota and South Dakota Voices for Children.

“Sanford Children’s was proud to participate in this forum with the candidates for Governor of South Dakota,” said Gene Hoyme, MD, Chief Medical Officer of Sanford Children’s. “As a leader in pediatric care, we believe it is our responsibility to stay involved in health and safety policy issues surrounding children not only in this state, but in all of the communities we serve.”

Candidates in attendance were Republican Dennis Daugaard, Democrat Scott Heidepriem, Republican Dave Knudson and Republican Scott Munsterman.
