MeritCare Childrens Hospital Patient Named As North Dakota Champion

WHAT: Dave Bussard will introduce Alyssa as North Dakota's Champion. Alyssa will be surprised with the opportunity to spend a $500 shopping card at Walmart to prepare for her trips to Washington, D.C. and Orlando, Fla. Alyssa from Minot, ND was diagnosed June 10, 2009 with ALL (Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia). She has been receiving treatment for her leukemia at the MeritCare Children's Hospital in Fargo.

WHY: Children's Miracle Network, Walmart and Sam's Club present an annual "Champions presented by Walmart and Sam's Club" program. A Champion, a child with a remarkable medical story, is chosen from each state. The Champions serve as ambassadors for the 17 million children who are treated at Children's Miracle Network hospitals each year. Alyssa will travel to Washington, D.C. in June and then to Orlando, Fla., in November, to highlight the vital work of children's hospitals. Alyssa will be featured on the CMN TV Celebration June 5. Midcontinent Communications will air the celebration locally on channel 23 from 2:30-10 p.m.
