Dozens of shoes are now on the way to Haiti thanks to Sanford Hospital Canton-Inwood employees. Employee Judy Cole was inspired by a news story about SDSU men’s basketball coach Scott Nagy. Nagy, whose adoptive daughter is from Haiti, coached barefoot in January to raise awareness for Samaritan’s Feet, which donates shoes to underprivileged countries.
Cole worked with fellow employee Cheryl McCann to collect shoes to be part of the SDSU donation. Boxes were placed at the front entrance of the hospital to collect shoes, and more than 140 pairs of shoes were donated.
“People aren’t always sure how they can make a difference,” said McCann. “Collecting shoes was such an easy way for those of us in South Dakota to help.”
The total donation equaled about two pairs of shoes per employee.
