Feb. 5 is National Wear Red Day. MeritCare Heart Center
is celebrating by joining together to raise awareness for women's heart disease.
The Go Red For Women campaign is hosting National Wear Red Day to spread awareness to prevent heart disease, stroke and other cardiovascular diseases. The near-term goal of the campaign is to reduce heart disease and stroke by at least 25 percent in 2010.
Each year about 500,000 women lose their lives to heart disease. Yet many women do not think of this disease as a major concern. A national campaign led by the American Heart Association
called "Go Red For Women" aims to change this by raising awareness and educating women about the risks of heart disease – the leading cause of death for American women (and men).
